University Lecture Updates

Keiser Distinguished Lectureship in Life Sciences

Ohio Northern University welcomed Dr. Reed Noss, Provost's Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Central Florida to deliver the 2014 Keiser Lecture titled, "Wilderness, wildness, and biodiversity: realized through natural history," in October.

In addition to being the Provost’s Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Central Florida, Dr. Reed Noss is also the President of the Florida Institute for Conservation Science. He has a B.S. in Education from the University of Dayton, an M.S. in Ecology from the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Florida. His research involves the application of science to species-level and ecosystem-level conservation planning, restoration, and management. He is currently writing a book on southern grasslands, studying the effects of suburban and exurban development on bird communities, and conducting research on impacts of, and adaptation to, sea-level rise in Florida. SEE MORE

Lovett Distinguished Lecture Series

Ohio Northern University’s Dicke College of Business Administration presented “Evolution of a Family Business,” a lecture by Robert Gronlund, BA ’64, Hon. D. ’09,  as part of the Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture Series in October.

Gronlund, chairman and chief executive officer of Wood- Mode Inc., a custom cabinetry manufacturer in Kreamer, Pa., graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1964 with a degree in economics. A successful businessman, he credits much of his success to his education and experiences at Ohio Northern. He served in the U.S. military from 1964-65 and was a manufacturer’s sales representative in New York City from 1966-69. SEE MORE

Sebok Pharmacy Lecture – Feb. 13

Dr. Mary M. “Peggy” Piascik, BSPh ’74, immediate past president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and ONU pharmacy graduate will present this year’s Sebok Pharmacy Lecture. Piascik is a professor of pharmacy practice and science at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Piascik currently serves as immediate past president of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

Spotts Lecture Series – Feb. 23

Carey Smith, BSEE ’85,  president of Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc. (HTSI) – a subsidiary within Honeywell Aerospace, will be featured at this year’s Spotts Lecture. Since September 2011, Smith has led the HTSI business that provides space, networks and communications, technical services and logistics support for the Department of Defense and civilian customers. She earned a bachelor of electrical engineering from Ohio Northern in 1985 and a master’s degree from Syracuse.
