Services and Opportunities

Once a Polar Bear, always a Polar Bear!

The Office of Alumni Relations would like to encourage all ONU alumni to take advantage of the services ONU provides and consider the opportunities to give back to their alma mater!

Services provided for ONU Alumni

The Alumni Journal and the e-Journal provides information about University updates, current student activities, alumni and friends, and upcoming events on and off campus. Have an update to share? Contact the Office of Alumni Relations.

The ONU Alumni Community is an online directory and event-registration website available to all alumni. This online tool enables alumni to search and find classmates to reconnect or stay in touch and allows alumni to register for events online. All alumni are included in the directory unless specifically requested otherwise. If you have not already signed up to use the ONU Alumni Community, please visit to set up your username and password. Alumni still have the option to register for events without signing in; however, the benefit of signing in gives alumni full access to the alumni directory and a faster event registration.

The ONU Alumni Website provides up-to-date information on events, volunteer opportunities, alumni clubs and other alumni programing, and portals to other information at ONU that alumni may find useful. The website received a recent facelift and has a new look and feel. Visit our website and see our new look!

The ONU Alumni House provides alumni with a home base while visiting campus! All alumni are welcome to come and visit the Alumni House (the former president’s house) on 115 Lima Ave. We have coffee, tea, water, free Wi-Fi, and campus tours available. Call 419-772-2727 or email ahead or just stop by and see us!

ONU alumni social media provides the opportunity to stay connected and up to date by the minute with our alumni Facebook page, alumni club Facebook pages, Twitter and more. For a listing of all our social media sites, click here.

Regional alumni events in different cities around the country bring ONU to your own backyard! These events give alumni who live farther away from campus the opportunity to meet the president and first lady, meet and mingle with other area Polar Bears, receive updates about the University, and hear perspectives from current students. To find out if ONU will be in a city near you, check out the event listings.

Polar Career Services for alumni provides the ability to meet with a professional advisor either in person or via phone conference, post your résumé or search for jobs on Polar Careers (powered by Simplicity), attend career fairs, and receive advice on creating or adjusting your résumé. For more information, visit Polar Careers.

ONU Alumni Weekend is a special weekend for the 50th class reunion and the golden years class reunions! This year, we will honor the 50th class reunion of 1964! All golden class years (1963 and earlier) also are encouraged to come celebrate! Save the date for this year’s Alumni Weekend on the weekend of May 30-June 1, 2014. Click here for the schedule of events.

ONU Homecoming is an annual opportunity for all alumni to come back and visit campus. Classes that are celebrating their reunions have special events and photos. We especially look forward to welcoming back the classes of ’09, ’04, ’99, ’94, ’89, ’84, ’79, ’74, ’69, and ’64. This year, Homecoming is on the weekend of Oct. 3-5, 2014. Opportunities for ONU Alumni Involvement

Alumni Club Volunteers: Alumni Clubs are currently located in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Washington, D.C. The clubs depend and exist only if there are dedicated volunteers to help plan local events. If there is not a club in your local area and you are interested in starting a new club, please let us know. Visit the Alumni Club page for more information.

ONU College Campus Volunteers: Alumni may choose to interview perspective pharmacy students, speak in a class on their area of expertise, or judge a student competition in any one of our colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering, Law and Pharmacy. Email us and let us know where you are interested in volunteering, and we will connect you with a representative from that college.

Alumni Association Board: Positions on the Alumni Association Board are filled as they become vacant and require an application and board approval. Nominate someone you know or let us know if you are interested, and we will begin the process. For more information and an application for the Alumni Association Board, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations. To see the current Ohio Northern University Alumni Board, click here.

B.E.A.R.S. (Building Energetic Alumni Resources for Students) Volunteers: Alumni volunteers are welcome and encouraged to help Ohio Northern recruit perspective students by representing ONU at college fairs or writing note cards to perspective students. For mor information about the B.E.A.R.S. program click here. Already know you have a service to offer?  to volunteer or share your ideas.

Recommend a Polar Recruit: Do you know any high school juniors or seniors? Help ONU find quality perspective students by referring a student. Those who fill out the referral form will receive an ONU window cling for their car as a thank you.

Career Services: Are you in a position to hire ONU students for jobs or internships? Do you know of an opening in your organization that could be posted for current students to apply? Interested in mentoring a current student or participating in mock interviews? Encourage your company to attend ONU career fairs and conduct on-campus recruiting. Alumni networking is key to placing ONU students in their future careers.

Please let us know, and we will consider them for possible features in the Alumni Journal, online content and more.
